Summertime is when the sun comes out, and the coats go in the closet.  Depending on where you live you may experience temperatures of well over 100 degrees and serious humidity.  When these warm months approach, it’s time to make sure that your home’s space is equipped to make things as comfortable as possible.

What better place to hang out when it’s hot outside, than in the comfort of your own backyard?  If you’re ready to make your backyard space the ultimate summer hangout, then consider these backyard upgrades to cool off.

Shades

Not everyone has a lot of natural shade in their backyard.  When it’s boiling hot outside, the last thing you want to do is sit in the sun and melt away.

Rather than forcing yourself to go indoors, consider installing outdoor shades to your space.  There are a lot of different options available from DIY creations to getting a professional service to create a custom design for your needs.

Having the option of shade to sit under while still being able to enjoy the outdoors is key to a comfortable outdoor layout.

Fans

Although a gentle breeze is ideal, we can’t always trust that one is going to show up.  Installing fans throughout your back porch is a great way to stay cool even if it’s humid with no wind any time soon.

Special outdoor fans are built to withstand weather conditions and often have features like water misters.

Hammock

When you think of a perfect summer day, it usually has a hammock in the picture.  There’s nothing quite like enjoying the sunshine while lying comfortably in a big hammock.

Although hammocks are usually associated with being secured by beams or large trees, you may not be equipped with those.  If you don’t have anything to hang your hammock from consider buying a hammock stand which holds up the hammock from a ground supported structure.

Pool

What is summertime without jumping into a crystal blue pool?  If you have the space in your backyard, you should consider installing a pool for the ultimate backyard upgrade.

Since a below ground pool isn’t in everyone’s budget, you can look into above ground pools which are just as refreshing for a fraction of the price.

Depending on how much maintenance you want to deal with you may opt for something as small as a wading pool, or a larger depth pool which will require some basic pool chemicals and net.

Outdoor Fridge

When you’ve got the barbecue going and the summer tunes blaring the only thing missing is a cold drink.  Consider a mini fridge outdoors so you can grab a refreshment without having to go all the way into the kitchen!
