The kitchen is arguably one of the most important areas of a home. Even if you’re not that into cooking, the kitchen area always seems to be the place where the most people tend to congregate when spending time together in someone’s home. Because of this, it makes sense that you’d want this room to be beautiful and comfortable. So if you’ve recently been feeling like your kitchen is lacking, especially when it comes to the cabinets, here are three tips for updating your kitchen cabinetry.

Try A New Paint Color

If you’re not wanting to make a big change that requires any real tools or a huge time commitment, you might want to first consider simply repainting your cabinets. According to Karin Beuerlein, a contributor to HGTV, giving your cabinets a fresh coat of paint is a great idea if the structure and bones of your cabinets are still in good shape. When choosing a new paint color, make sure you pick one that’s a semi-gloss. And while you might have originally thought about painting both the uppers and lowers in the same color, many modern kitchens go for different colors on the upper and lower cabinets, which can give your kitchen a whole new look.

Add Some Details

For those who are wanting to add something new to your cabinets but don’t necessarily want to replace anything, adding some new details could be the exact change you’ve been looking for. Depending on how your kitchen is set up or what details you already have going on, This Old House recommends adding some details such as a plate rack, pull-out cabinet shelves, under cabinet lighting, glass fronts and more. By choosing updates such as these, not only can you bring a new look to your kitchen, but you can also make the space a lot more functional for you and your family.

Put On Some New Hardware

As a final way that you can update and upgrade older cabinets that are still functioning well, you may want to simply put on some new hardware. According to Lisa Kaplan Gordon, a contributor to House Logic, replacing knobs or pulls is very easy to go on your own and can really take your kitchen up a notch without requiring you to spend a lot of money. To make this even easier, try to choose new hardware that will fit in the current holes that are in your cabinets so you won’t even have to drill any new holes anywhere.

To make your kitchen look brand new, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you learn what you can do to update your kitchen cabinetry.
