Discuss Performances

After attending shows, it’s a good idea to sit down with your child and evaluate what he or she thought of the performance. Reading Broadway play reviews is a great way to spark discussion by learning different viewpoints of the same piece of art. Challenge your children to think critically about what they saw in order to form their own opinions.

Listen to Soundtracks

When choosing music for the car, or even just as background noise at home, choose some of the child’s favorite musicals as a soundtrack. You can often find many of these through your music streaming service or even check out a few CDs at the library. You might even seek out new performance scores to broaden your child’s horizons or experiment with different renditions of the same show.

Encourage Participation

When the school puts on a show, encourage your kids to try out if that’s something they shows an interest in. Help them rehearse and be sure to attend performances if they succeed in getting the parts they want. There’s also the option of local theater productions or art programs that bring together other kids with the same interests and offer constructive advice, so they can strengthen their skills.

There are many ways for kids to be creative. Parents can help cultivate a passion for the performing arts at a young age with continuous guidance and loving support. Take part in as much of the process as you can, while still allowing your children to be free and express themselves however they wish.
