The world is a very dangerous place: from potential pandemics, insect invasions and extreme weather conditions to economic crashes, societal collapses and terrorist attacks, there seems to be no safe place to run for cover – unless you make your own shelter before apocalypse strikes. You will need lots of stuff in your doomsday prepping project, which is why we have a convenient checklist right here to help you stock up your critical survival supplies before the disaster hits the neighborhood.
Food and water
In case of a full-scale emergency situation where you might wind up locked indoors for days on end, you will need ample food and water supplies to tide you over to next fresh grocery shopping. The best grubs to pile up in your survival pantry include no-cook, instant or canned food, dry snacks, plain water and raw nuts and fruit that require no additional preparation. Make sure your supply is ample enough to provide for at least three days of survival per person, but you can up the figure if you are expecting a full-scale natural disaster or a similar extreme crisis scenario.
Power, light and heating
Another aspect important for survival in emergencies, reliable power supply may extend or even save your life in case of electricity failures. A battery-powered torch is a must-have for any serious doomsday prepper – you simply cannot rely on lighters and matches because open flames may even cause a fire. A gas-powered stove may be a good option in case you need to heat up food, for as long as it is in good working order and not leaking toxic substances. In case your cell phone battery drains, have a portable charger close at hand unless you actually want to remain cut off from the rest of the world until somebody comes to rescue you.
Medical supplies
Every cautious doomsday prepper knows that the key to survival lies in good health. To stay safe in the face of a raging apocalypse, check your first-aid kit and top it up with fresh supplies of antibiotics, antiseptics, bandages and band-aids, cold compresses, pain relievers, fever reducers, aspirin and prescription drugs. Thermometer, cleansing agents, sterile gloves and basic medical devices like glucose and blood pressure monitors are optional accessories, but if you want to stay on top of any unexpected situation fortune decides to throw your way, do include them in the doomsday pack.
Tools and safety equipment
Once cut off from the rest of the civilization, it is the hardware and handyman skills that make a difference between slow death and salvation. Your doomsday prepper toolbox should contain pliers, a set of screwdrivers, hacksaw, utility knife, drill, claw hammer, adjustable wrench, tape measure, level and duct tape. Safety equipment for a disaster scenario includes emergency fire fighting units, dust masks, smoke detectors and alarm sirens, but you can add other items such as an axe, emergency flares, shovels, multitools, compasses and other survivalist gear to the list if you think you may need them and have storage space to spare.
Other essentials
If you are struggling against a disaster with a baby onboard, you will need at least a reasonable quantity of baby food, diapers, powdered milk, rash ointments, bottles, wet wipes, paper towels and lots of warm baby clothes to keep the youngling safe and well-nourished. With small kids in the mix, you might also need books, crayons and board games to keep the little ones occupied until the weather clears. If you have a pet, you should prepare its favorite toys, bowls and clothes and stock up pet food, water and cleanup supplies.
When the going gets tough and all hell breaks loose, the tough whip out their doomsday supplies and fight against all odds. Do not let the apocalypse catch you bare-handed: the better your doomsday kit is, the higher your likelihood of survival will be, so do your homework ahead of time and stand up brave and tall against the next whim of fate.
