No matter what size the room may be, storage is always a challenging aspect to any rooms design. The aim with any interior design is to create a space and layout that has enough storage without making the room cramped or overcrowded. You often find that the bedroom is the one room in the house that requires the most practical storage features. It can also be a challenge to fit the right kind of storage space into your bedroom when you’re working with a smaller space, but with these useful storage ideas you should find it a little easier to utilise the space you have!

Embrace the Nooks

If your room happens to have a smaller nook, then don’t let this space go to waste. You often see rooms with a cute little nook going to waste with valuable storage space not being used. Dependant on the shape and size of the nook, you can invest in some really useful, hand crafted shelving units to fit neatly into this smaller space. Ideal for storing items such as books, photographs and even ornaments, this small space can be spruced up whilst also being utilised for essential storage space.

Under the Bed

We’re not talking monsters when we say under the bed, it’s actually a very useful storage space for smaller boxes that could hold almost anything you wanted out of sight. Your bed can take up a lot of floor space, and if you have a bed style that enables you to, then storing certain items beneath your bed is actually really beneficial. Not only is there easy access to the items stored there, but you can’t really see the items, and you can always invest in some stylish boxes to keep the items stored neatly away in.

Furniture Storage

Investing in the right kind of furniture for your bedroom is essential in ensuring you have the right amount of storage space, without cramping the room and making it feel even smaller. There are obvious furniture pieces such as a stylish wardrobe or trendy oak chest of drawers that are perfect for providing you with key storage space for clothing. You can then utilise these pieces further by adding extra storage to them. When it comes to wardrobes, you often have space on the top to store boxes, bags and other larger items that you may not need as often as others. You can then use the surface area of your chest of drawers to store essential items such as jewellery, books, candles, a mirror and so on. By using these spaces, you are able to add a little character to the room and also make the most of the space that you have.

Vertical Spaces

There has become a sudden flush in the interior design industry, with many designs utilising the vertical space available as well as the floor space that is normally the main focus. When you think vertically you are looking at areas like the walls, doors and windows, which may seem a little odd at first, but after seeing a few design ideas it’s actually a very clever storage technique. Using the space available at the back of your bedroom door is ideal for freeing up essential floor space, whilst still being able to easily access key items. You can find some gorgeous wire racks that are designed to hang neatly on the back of the door to keep things neat and tidy. You often find that having a selection of items stored neatly on the back of the door can actually look a lot better than the bundle of dressing gowns that used to hang in this space.
