The TV is an important element in a room, around which the family can gather to enjoy watching a programme or movie.
Do you know the best place to put your plasma screen or TV in your living room? Do not worry, here are some tips to help you.
Avoid direct light
This recommendation for installing a TV or plasma screen is basic. But most people first place their sofa when they decorate the room and often end up placing the TV in a less than optimal position. If placed opposite a window, for example, the clarity of the image suffers because it directly receives the sunlight and the image is degraded. So, the viewing experience is of lower quality.
Having a direct light source shining on the screen generates uncomfortable brightness and reflections for the eyes of viewers. The windows will reflect their shape on the screen. The same happens with artificial lights. If we place lights near the screen we will have the same effect. Ideally, we want to place the screen or TV in an area where there is no impact from light (natural or artificial) on the viewer or the screen.
Height and distance
The minimum distance recommended for placing a plasma screen or a TV varies between 1.5 and 2 metres from the floor level. This protects the eyes and neck of viewers from undue strain. This distance is also proportional to the size of the screen. It is not the same distance for a screen of 32 inches as for a 60-inch screen. In relation to height, eye experts recommend that the centre of the screen be at the average height of the eyes.
Another tip is to never place the screen in an angular way, it must always be completely vertical since it can cause distortion when perceiving the images. For example, we can say that the eyes of a person of average height sitting in an armchair are usually between 90 and 110 centimetres from the floor level. The higher a television set is, the more distorted it is in the perspective and its height begins to affect the colours of the screen. The ideal height is the point that allows optimal line of sight whether you are standing, lying or sitting.
Mounting your TV on the wall
If we do not have much free space, the most practical thing is to mount the television or plasma screen on the wall. This is achieved with a special wall mounting like the ones available from www.unicol.com that allows the screen to be mounted on the wall, or even embedded. This allows for optimal viewing and also frees up floor space.
