Take the time now to learn a little about what is needed to keep your yard looking stellar.  Here is a quick overview of some landscaping tips for first-time homeowners.

Tips for a healthy lawn

The easiest way to get a luscious green lawn is to have professionals install live sod.  If you don’t want to spring for new sod, there are steps you can take to encourage the growth of your lawn.

Fertilizing your yard is a great way to provide vital nutrients to your grass, but you have to do it at the right time.  Try fertilizing your lawn after you mow.  When the grass is freshly cut and short, it will receive the fertilizer more efficiently.

Plant some trees in the yard

Trees are not only beautiful, but they are also great for providing shade.  If you plant trees in the right position, they will shield your home from the sun in the heat of the summer.  Your energy bills will be a little lighter with the assistance of trees.

Planting trees in your yard will also help to provide a fresher pocket of air for you and your family to enjoy.  Trees are the earth’s natural air filter, and your yard isn’t complete without a few of them.

Stage a social sitting area

A couple of necessary qualities of a great yard are privacy and respite.  You need a safe, relaxing space outdoors for your family and friends to gather.

Consider installing a privacy fence or building a deck area.  Simply putting a few chairs in a circle won’t do.  Think serene and melodic as you design your outdoor space.

Plant some perennials

Perennial plants are designed by nature to last.  They bloom every year if you take care of them, so one planting session should keep your yard looking beautiful for several years.

Flower, however, do take a bit of maintenance.  You can do some research and find plants that are relatively low maintenance, but you’re always going to have to do some work to keep your plants healthy.

Do your research before planting Before planting anything in your yard, you should sit down for some in-depth research.  You can’t just plant anything and expect it to survive.  Plants have specific climate, water, sun, and soil needs.
